Level 2: Dental Sleep Physician Advancement

If you have begun your DSM journey, this course is where your questions can be answered. The course is designed to catapult your confidence, your success and your expertise!

Discovering the power of dental sleep medicine can ultimately lead to tremendous practice growth and demand. When your community and sleep specialists learn of the potential life saving, health preserving procedures you can now offer, patients may seek your medically recommended CPAP alternatives. Sleep specialists should refer viable candidates for the oral appliance therapy (OAT) candidates that you can now deliver.

Implementation of Dr. Allman’s 7 Appointment OAT scheduling and medical billing protocol should simplify and streamline integration of these viable candidates and productive procedures into your general dental practice, immediately!

Handling medically pre-diagnosed and referred sleep apneic patients requires a different dental office mindset, documentation protocol and medical billing infrastructure. While Dr. Allman advocates fee-for-service practice philosophy, proficiency with medical billing and documentation policy is imperative. It is essential to become fluent with medical coding strategies, documentation verbiage and patient management using a medical model, not a dental model.

Advanced instrumentation, implementation and interpretation useful to dental sleep medicine can be very confusing. In this course, instrumentation that is really needed and what is wasted expense is addressed ONCE AND FOR ALL! You will hear about how to avoid investing in bells and whistles that do not affect clinical outcomes and that may be unappreciated by your medical colleagues.

One of the biggest fears dentists have providing OAT for sleep apneic patients is managing TMJ side effects. In Session 2, advanced OAT side effects troubleshooting will be presented. This course is designed to allow you to gain confidence with OAT and NMD by presenting easy decision models for managing transient complaints effectively and confidently. You will be presented the opportunity to learn some new techniques to add to your tool box and discover a “morning after” appliance that is easily fabricated in-office and customized chair side to minimize occlusal changes and OAT effects! This course present information regarding why the hard bite tabs are not well tolerated and can create problems!

Marketing dental sleep medicine efficiently and effective use of your budget dollars will be addressed. Remember, marketing OAT is not selling; it is educating the potential untreated CPAP intolerant OSA sufferers regarding the option for a viable medically recommended alternative.  A common problem with OAT is patient and physician unawareness. It is your responsibility to let referring physicians and unmanaged patients know you exist!

Competent Dental Sleep Medicine Physicians should be able to diagnose and practice to a much higher standard and breadth of expertise, providing advanced procedures collaboratively with medical colleagues. Mouth doctors  who continue to educate themselves can become “medically” sought after Dental Sleep Medicine Physicians; The Go-To Dentist!
